From the ED's Desk - NH Charitable Gaming

Back to all news

A few years ago, our Board of Trustees voted to participate in NH Charitable Gaming. This practice enables NH Nonprofit organizations to partner with casinos in the State to share in gambling winnings to support the work of nonprofit organizations in the State.

Fellowship Housing Opportunities has benefited financially from its partnership with a NH casino. As a result, our housing programs, our residents, and our agency services have also benefited.

As casinos in New Hampshire are sold to larger corporate entities and consolidate their operations many changes have occurred in this important partnership with the nonprofits in the Granite State. The current legislative session has over fifty bills to amend the process and many of these bills provide for a more equitable distribution of the funds between nonprofits. Others provide additional bureaucratic regulation with control over the process, while some would enable more to participate in sharing proceeds by simplifying the application and contract process.

If your organization currently participates in NH Charitable Gaming profit sharing, I encourage you to review the proposed legislation and see how it impacts you as well as become actively involved in supporting or defeating legislation that will have an impact on this revenue stream.
